The object’s story
Object Description
This poster advertises Inside the Lines, a popular wartime spy drama presented at Dundee’s King’s Theatre during the week beginning 8 April 1918. Billed as the “Greatest of All Spy Plays” and appearing direct from London’s Apollo Theatre, the production was staged in its entirety with a large cast and extended running time. Set in Gibraltar at the outbreak of the First World War, the play reflected contemporary interest in espionage and patriotic themes. The poster demonstrates how dramatic productions increasingly appeared alongside variety entertainment in Dundee’s theatres during the war years.
