The object’s story

Object Description

This poster advertised a variety programme at Dundee’s King’s Theatre for the week beginning 27 May 1918. The bill was headlined by comedian Sam Barton, famous for his eccentric bicycle act, and featured the Empire Opera Singers, Vera Caine, Bert Elliott, The O’Cullens, Little Dolly Varden, and the dancing violinist Betty Washington. The programme also included Pictorial News, an official wartime newsreel, illustrating the combination of live entertainment and current affairs that characterised music hall programmes during the First World War.
