The object’s story

Object Description

Advertising the week beginning 3 August 1914, this striking red-and-blue letterpress poster is headlined by international music hall performer Liane D’Eve, recently returned from a South African tour. Supporting acts included Dorothy Millar, the Donovan Family, Lievin and Pantzer, Jessie Berg, Sid Blackwood, and Mollie Lindsay & Company in the Scottish sketch Washing House Hey. Issued during the week Britain entered the First World War, the poster captures a final moment of peacetime variety entertainment in Dundee.
