The object’s story

Object Description

This poster advertises a variety programme headlined by Scottish comedian Sammy Shields, billed as “The Speakable Scot.” The programme also featured magician Allan Shaw, comedian Lawrence Barclay, a production of Nell Gwynne, and musical burlesque performers Rose Sartella & Co. The inclusion of “Films from the Front” reflects the growing popularity of wartime newsreels in Dundee’s theatres during the First World War.
