The object’s story

Object Description

This striking red and blue playbill advertises a week-long variety programme at Dundee’s King’s Theatre and Hippodrome. Headlined by Henry Clive and Mabel Bunyea in the farce Hoo-Ray!, the bill also featured comedians Ike and Will Scott, the Leslie Brothers, Bob Thornton, and “Actual Films from the Front,” reflecting public interest in the opening months of the First World War. The poster illustrates the diverse entertainment offered by Scottish music halls in 1914, combining comedy, music, novelty acts, and topical wartime film footage.
