Programme

The reverse of a People’s Palace programme, filled with advertisements for Dundee businesses including clothing retailers, cycle dealers, bootmakers, tea merchants, hotels, barbers, and whisky merchants. The striking circular design centres on “The Globe Clothing House” and reflects the growing importance of advertising in Victorian urban life. Such ephemera provide a snapshot of local commerce, leisure, and consumer culture in Dundee at the end of the nineteenth century.
