The object’s story
Object Description
This handwritten note, addressed to the Oxford Picturedrome, contains a humorous verse celebrating the Scottish performer “Lackie.” Written in Scots-inflected language, it describes him “making strides in a kilt and singing a lilt,” offering a glimpse into the popularity of music hall entertainers and the informal ways audiences, performers, and venues were connected through personal correspondence.
Blank on rear.
Donated by Gwen Whyte, who inherited them from her late aunt, who had been a neighbour of Lackie’s in Balmore Street, Dundee.
